The current property of MAWS Mill is the culmination of many years of hard work to transform an old cottage and water mill (including steadings) into living accommodation. The original buildings, understood to have been built around 1880, consisted of a four-room cottage, mill, steadings and supporting buildings. A chicken shed was built on site in the 1950s, an extension to the cottage for a kitchen & bathroom was added in the 1970s and the mill was converted to living accommodation (a separate dwelling) during the 1990s. The past eight years have seen the whole property overhauled and brought into the 21st Century to form a spacious, well-appointed, no-smoking family home: 4/5 bedrooms, two receptions, & three bathrooms, all in ~1.5 acres of semi landscaped gardens.
Since 2000 the central heating system has been replaced (including a new boiler), there has been new plumbing from the stopcock, the electrical system has been overhauled and the whole house has been re-carpeted (most of it within the past two years) with new window dressings (curtains & blinds). In addition, insulation has been added, where practicable, and the house may be considered “pet and smoke free” – the family dog lives in the conservatory and there has been no smoking in the house (or garden) since the current owners took up residence.
The property is located in North Watten (~2 miles from Bower) with views across the countryside over Loch Watten to Morven in the distance and has mains electric & water with oil central heating and septic tank drainage. It is ideally situated for commuting to both Thurso & Wick yet remote enough to enjoy the peaceful environment of Caithness. To fully appreciate the property, viewing is highly recommended.
